PLEASE FUND HOMELESS SERVICES AND HOUSING

To: Sen. Butler, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Lieu

From: A verified voter in Santa Monica, CA

June 29

Hi, I’m a constituent from Santa Monica and a member of Indivisible Westside Los Angeles. I’m concerned about the lack of local support systems to address the growing housing crisis. Experts recommend that the FY2025 Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill includes at least $4.75 billion for essential grants that provide critical assistance, particularly to those experiencing chronic homelessness. This is an issue that is only getting worse because of climate change, such as the recent heat dome that affected so much of the country. According to the New York Times, “In 2023, the hottest on record, heat-related deaths recorded in Maricopa County [AZ] climbed 52 percent, to 645. Almost half of the people who died were homeless.” Please take action now to help our fellow Americans leave the streets and into permanent homes to access essential services. Thank you for your time and attention.
