Stop the U.S. military being deployed against Americans

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

June 10

U.S. Marines and unauthorized California National Guard have been illegally deployed to take action against U.S. citizens in the United States. Deploying our military against Americans is a blatant violation of the law, and an executive overreach to create political theater. This was our Founding Fathers’ worst nightmare. Deploying federal military forces for domestic law enforcement violates the Posse Comitatus Act, a key safeguard against militarization of civilian governance. The Founding Fathers separated the military and the police for a reason. The military fights the enemies of the state; the police serve and protect the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people. When our own military shoots and kills a civilian who’s just standing in the street exercising their First Amendment right to peaceful protest, there will be no turning back. We will no longer be the same country. Congress must take immediate action to stop this Republican administration from illegally deploying our military against Americans. My wife and I urge you to take all available measures to uphold the Constitution and ensure this unlawful overreach is swiftly halted. The integrity of our system of government is at stake.
