Urge Action Against Unjust Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. Lieu, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Redondo Beach, CA

October 14, 2025

I am writing to express my deep concern over the recent events surrounding the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. While the release of nearly 2,000 individuals is a step towards de-escalation, the circumstances of their detention and release are deeply troubling and demand our immediate attention. The fact that approximately 1,700 people from Gaza were held without charge is a severe violation of human rights and due process. This practice of administrative detention without formal accusations or fair trials must be addressed and condemned. Furthermore, the reports of released prisoners showing signs of weight loss and abuse are alarming and suggest inhumane treatment during their incarceration. I am particularly disturbed by Israel's actions to suppress celebrations of the prisoners' release. Forbidding families from expressing joy at reuniting with their loved ones and threatening surveillance and arrests for supporting 'terrorist organisations' is an overreach that infringes on basic human rights and dignity. This approach perpetuates a cycle of fear and oppression that is counterproductive to peace efforts in the region. The deportation of some prisoners to Gaza instead of allowing them to return to their homes in the West Bank is another concerning aspect of this situation. This forced relocation disrupts families and communities, and appears to be a form of collective punishment. I urge you to take a strong stance against these practices. We must advocate for: 1. An end to administrative detention without charge 2. Investigation into allegations of mistreatment in Israeli prisons 3. Respect for the rights of released prisoners and their families to reunite and celebrate without fear of reprisal 4. An end to forced relocations and deportations As my representative, I ask that you raise these issues in Congress and with the State Department. We must leverage our diplomatic relationships to pressure Israel to adhere to international human rights standards and work towards a just resolution that respects the dignity of all people in the region. The ongoing situation in Gaza and the West Bank requires urgent attention and action. Please prioritize this matter and keep me informed of the steps you are taking to address these critical human rights concerns.
