Hold the Line on DHS — Clear, Unified Demands Required

To: Rep. Neguse, Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet

From: A verified voter in Erie, CO

January 26

I am writing to urge you to hold firm during the upcoming DHS negotiations and support a clear, unified set of demands that restore accountability and protect the public. Democratic leadership must use its leverage to secure meaningful concessions, not reopen the government without gains. I am calling on you to support the following six concrete demands: 1 No additional funding for ICE.
No new DHS funding should include additional money for ICE without enforceable limits and accountability measures in place. 2 A full ban on masks and mandatory visible name badges for ICE agents.
ICE agents must meet the same identification standards as police, with no loopholes or discretionary exceptions. 3 Immediate withdrawal of ICE operations from Minnesota.
What is occurring there is unacceptable and requires immediate action. 4 Immediate public hearings on ICE-related killings and violence.
Congress must exercise its oversight authority to investigate these abuses transparently. 5 Prohibit the militarization of American cities without state consent.
Federal agents should not be deployed in communities without explicit invitation or approval from state leadership. 6 End retaliation against elected officials and civilians who challenge federal policy.
Federal agencies must not be used as tools of intimidation or political punishment. These are reasonable, achievable demands. I expect Democratic leadership to remain unified and to use its leverage to secure real accountability rather than conceding without results. I will be closely watching how you and your colleagues proceed.
