Block Trump’s Unauthorized Military Operation in Venezuela

To: Rep. Lieu, Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Los Angeles, CA

December 23

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to prevent any further unauthorized military operations in Venezuela. Recently, the Trump administration escalated tensions by ordering military action without congressional authorization or approval. This is a violation of our Constitution, which clearly grants Congress the sole authority to declare war and authorize military action. The military intervention in Venezuela poses serious risks to regional stability, and further exacerbates the suffering of the Venezuelan people. It also undermines democratic processes, as the people of Venezuela deserve to have their voices heard without interference from foreign powers. The use of military force in such a sensitive situation will likely provoke more violence and destabilize the region, drawing us into a larger and potentially disastrous conflict. As your constituent, I ask that you act swiftly to protect our constitutional checks and balances by making it clear that any unauthorized military action, particularly in Venezuela, is unacceptable. You must demand that the Senate take steps to block any future military operations in Venezuela and hold the administration accountable for its disregard of both the law and diplomatic efforts. Congress has the responsibility to protect the interests of the American people, and this includes preventing unnecessary military conflicts that put us at risk and waste precious resources. I am counting on you to act decisively to prevent this dangerous escalation and defend our nation’s democratic principles.
