Public Clarification Required — President Trump’s Remarks, March 9, 2026
To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Grassley
From: A verified voter in Des Moines, IA
March 12
On March 9, 2026, President Donald Trump said this:
“Let’s not just get one like voter ID, but you know, it can be given to you by your daughter. You know, your daughter, she has to be of age, like above six years old, she’s allowed to say.”
“Of age” has one broadly understood meaning in American culture. The President applied it to six-year-old girls. The White House has not clarified this statement. Congress has not clarified this statement.
I am asking you to do so now, publicly and on the record.
Do you believe a child over the age of six is old enough to give consent of any kind?
If you have daughters, granddaughters, or nieces — do you believe they were capable of giving consent at six years old? Answer that question by name, in public, not through a staffer.
Will you call on President Trump to explain what he meant?
This is not a partisan question. It is a question about children. I am not asking for a form letter. I am asking for a plain human answer within 10 days — both in a public statement and in a direct response to me as your constituent.
Your answer — or your silence — will tell us everything we need to know.
Respectfully,
