I am writing as your constituent to express my deep appreciation for your vote against the recent procedural motion that allowed the government to reopen without immediately securing the ACA premium tax credits. I understand this action was against the wishes of some of your caucus colleagues and leadership.
However, I am equally furious that the outcome was nevertheless enabled by a small group of senators, specifically the eight who crossed the line. It is political malpractice.
We need leaders, not managers. This failure to secure the ACA subsidies now, driven by a desire to “force a tough vote” on the opposition in 2026, is a profound disappointment. The consequences, including premium spikes for working families, are immediate and real, while the payoff is a delayed political strategy that offers zero certainty. This is unacceptable, especially after the recent elections signaled a strong mandate to fight for our core values.
Senator Schumer’s poor leadership has once again demonstrated the willingness to compromise the essential needs of our constituents for a protracted legislative process.
As you approach your re-election bid in a few years, know that the actions of the entire Democratic caucus, and the willingness of our elected representatives to hold the line for the working class, are being watched closely. I will hold you accountable not just for your own votes, but for the courage you show in demanding true, principled leadership in the Senate.
