I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent from Dunbar, Kanawha County, West Virginia, to express my strong opposition to the recently passed "One Big Beautiful Bill." I believe this legislation will have detrimental impacts on our state and its residents.
Specifically, I am deeply concerned about the significant cuts to vital programs such as Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). As someone who relies on the Affordable Care Act for essential healthcare, I fear these cuts will leave many, including myself, without the critical services we need to stay healthy. I know many families in our community depend on SNAP to put food on the table, and reducing these benefits will create immense hardship.
Furthermore, I am troubled by the projected increases in the cost of living for West Virginia families, including potential rises in electricity and gasoline prices due to cuts in clean energy tax credits. The disproportionate nature of the tax benefits, which seem to overwhelmingly favor the wealthiest while imposing burdens on working-class families, is also a serious concern.
The potential for increased uncompensated care costs in our rural hospitals poses a direct threat to healthcare access in communities like ours, where these facilities are often the only option.
I urge you to consider the far-reaching negative consequences of this bill on West Virginians. I respectfully ask that you publicly advocate for revisions to the bill, support future legislation aimed at mitigating these impacts, and work to protect vital social safety nets in our state.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this critical matter. I look forward to your response and learning what steps you intend to take to address these concerns
