Congress failed to stop this Republican administration’s illegal war with Iran. The American people are now living with the consequences.
The US-Iran MoU signed at Versailles is not a diplomatic win. It is a capitulation featuring terms that include lifting all US sanctions on Iran, releasing frozen Iranian funds, and dismantling our naval blockade within 30 days. We spent billions of dollars, and lost at least 13 American service members, on this needless war, and ended it by giving Iran everything it wants, including an additional $300 billion of American taxpayer’s money.
You and your congressional colleagues are directly responsible for this travesty. You had multiple chances to stop this war, and refused to do so at every chance. The 60-day counter to finalize a permanent deal is already running. You still have a chance to act.
My wife and I urge you to use your power as a member of Congress, and the Republican party, to use whatever leverage remains in that negotiation to demand Iran’s full nuclear dismantlement, ironclad verification verification of that process, explicit security guarantees for US allies, and public answers for why preventing this war was never seriously pursued.
