I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to investigate and halt Palantir Technologies' unprecedented access to Americans' personal data through federal government contracts. This surveillance system poses a direct threat to our constitutional rights and privacy.
Following Trump's March executive order requiring all federal agencies to share data on Americans, Palantir was selected to implement a system that would combine information from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services, Social Security Administration, and Internal Revenue Service. According to New York Times reporting, this includes access to citizens' bank account numbers and medical claims. Even Republican Representative Warren Davidson of Ohio warned that combining these data points into one database creates a digital ID that history shows will eventually be abused.
The circumstances surrounding Palantir's selection raise serious concerns about conflicts of interest. Elon Musk's department of government efficiency orchestrated the selection, with at least three members having worked at Palantir. Company founder Peter Thiel maintains a major stake and has close connections to key administration figures including JD Vance and David Sacks, now Trump's AI and crypto czar. Palantir CEO Alex Karp, who received $6.8 billion in compensation in 2024 making him the highest-paid CEO of a publicly traded US company, has stated the company wants to "disrupt" institutions and "scare enemies and on occasion kill them."
Thirteen former Palantir employees have already signed a letter urging the company to stop working with Trump. Former Palantir engineer Linda Xia warned that combining all this data significantly increases the risk of misuse. Democratic lawmakers have sent letters requesting answers about these massive government contracts, but more action is needed.
I urge you to demand full congressional oversight of Palantir's contracts, require transparency about data collection and usage, and introduce legislation to prevent the creation of this super-database of Americans' private information. Our taxpayer dollars should not fund surveillance systems that threaten our fundamental freedoms.
