Re: Opposition to Any Executive Attempt to Suspend the Constitution or Cancel Federal Elections The Constitution of the United States is not negotiable. I am writing to you as your constituent because I need to know, on the record, that you agree — and that you will act on that agreement. The threats I am referring to are not abstract. President Trump has publicly suggested the possibility of serving a third term, in direct violation of the 22nd Amendment. He has stated that the Constitution should be “terminated” to allow him to return to power. Members of his administration have floated the idea of delaying or restructuring federal elections. These are not hypotheticals — they are statements made by the President of the United States and those around him, and they demand a direct, public response from every member of Congress. The law is clear. Article II of the Constitution grants the Executive Branch specific, enumerated powers — and no more. The authority to set the date of federal elections rests with Congress under Article I, Section 4, not the presidency. The 22nd Amendment is unambiguous on term limits. No emergency, real or manufactured, grants any president the power to suspend constitutional rights, cancel elections, or extend his own tenure beyond what the law allows. Any attempt to do so would be, by definition, an assault on the republic itself. You took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” I am asking you to honor it — publicly, unequivocally, and without waiting to see which way the political wind blows. That oath has no partisan exemption. It does not pause for party loyalty. And the constituents you represent — of both parties — are watching to see whether you mean it. I am asking you to take the following specific actions: 1.   Speak publicly and on the record — not in private statements or anonymous quotes, but openly, where your constituents can hear you — opposing any attempt to suspend or override the Constitution. 2.   Publicly affirm that federal elections will proceed as scheduled, and oppose any executive action that would delay, cancel, or invalidate them. 3.   Support legislation that reinforces congressional authority over the electoral process and establishes clear consequences for executive overreach in this area. 4.   Oppose any effort to extend this or any future president’s term beyond the limits set by the 22nd Amendment, regardless of how that effort is framed or justified. Americans of every political background have fought and died to protect the right to vote and the rule of law. That inheritance does not belong to any administration, any party, or any individual. It belongs to all of us. Protecting it is not a political act — it is the most basic obligation of everyone who holds public office. You were elected to represent us and to defend the Constitution. This is the moment that tests whether those words mean anything. I am asking you to be unambiguous, to be public, and to be on the right side of this — because when history records what happened here, there will be no room for “I was privately concerned.” There will only be what you did.
