Thank you for running in this election for running in this election on behalf of freedom and dignity. I also have taken notice of your gun control policies. Though I agree with some of your platform, I have some concerns. Both of us are gun owners and take the protection of our loved ones seriously as much as our own safety. Despite possessing a valid Kansas Conceal and Carry Weapons (CCW) Permit, it is meaningless given that I live near Missouri state line. Under the Gun Free School Zones Act 1990. CCW permits only allow people within the state of issue to travel within 1000 feet of a school, and will not extend to state reciprocity. Even traveling on a highway within a school zone makes felons of people who followed the rules, obtained their permits, and provided the government the required biometric information. This act though well intended has done very little to stop school shootings, and has rarely if ever been used against the horrible monsters who have attacked our nation’s schools. I ask of you to amend the Gun Free School Zone act to list CCW to posses with faith and credit with states that have reciprocity to the state of the CCW’s issue. States that do not have reciprocity would have nothing to worry about. Firearms owners would also have little to worry about travel to states that acknowledge their permit without fear of weighing their safety and violating the law. I believe in effective gun control, but I also believe that if we indeed do live in an unsafe environment, we should be allowed to legally carry firearms to defend ourselves. This is should be especially true when reciprocity states agree that there is no issue with law abiding citizens traveling between each other. Please encourage Americans right to protect themselves when our overwhelmed local governments cannot protect us all at once, especially in a major police shortage. Violent crime in my area along with many parts of the county are rising and outpacing the police staffing. Please lead with respect to Americans rights to be free from fear and to promote liberty to live in this great land.
