Im writing to you today with great respect and gratitude for all that you have done for this country. You may not get all the credit you deserve, and you may get some blame that is unwarranted, but most Americans know what you've done for this country. I applaud you supporting Supreme Court reform, but I believe it needs to go one step further. The Supreme Court (and frankly all other courts), needs to be expanded. There are 13 District Courts, shouldn't each District be overseen by a Supreme Court Justice instead of some overseeing multiple? Expanding the Courts helps negate undemocratic measures that the Republicans in Congress have done these past years. This brings me to my next point, nothing will change for the better in the future unless Congress itself is expanded. The House of Representatives used to expand with population. It stopped with the Permanent Apportionment Act in the 1920s and the size of the House has been capped at 435 since then. Despite the United States growing in population over 120 million in that time, despite adding new states as well. The current situation enables gerrymandering and makes it harder to get things done because so many Representatives are set regardless of what happens in the population. Many people have suggested something called the Wyoming Rule (standard representative to population based off least populated state) but any adjustment is better than what is currently happening. Having more Representatives will limit gerrymandering (its harder to gerrymander a neighborhood instead of an entire county), limit minority rule and lets more people have a voice which is better for Demcracy. One final thought, I believe it is time that Washington DC becomes a State. They have no Senators nor voting member of the House despite paying taxes, that is injust. Additionally, the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands should be permitted to enter as States with Senators and voting members of the House if they choose to, but they must be given that choice. Again not only will this combat minority rule but also expand the representation of Americans and protect Democracy. Many other issues matter to young people like myself, including not being able to afford to buy a house, and simply not being as well off as my parent's were at my age. I feel the system has become rigged against me since I am not a wealthy individual or corporation and that needs to stop. Thank you for what you have done to this country and what you continue to do every day. I hope these thoughts can somehow make their way into government one day, as many young people like myself think about it.
