I am writing to request that you take an immediate and public stand against the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security’s current strategy of using federal law enforcement as a "bargaining chip" to seize state voter rolls. The recent letter from AG Pam Bondi to Minnesota—offering to withdraw ICE "surge" teams only if the state surrenders its voter and welfare data—is a blatant act of federal extortion. This has nothing to do with "election integrity" and everything to do with a federal power grab. While the state of Arizona is currently embroiled in its own legal battle over our voter data, the "Minnesota Model" sets a terrifying precedent: it signals that the federal government will use the threat of civil unrest and law enforcement "surges" to bully states into submission. This is a direct violation of the Tenth Amendment and a perversion of the executive branch’s authority. I expect you to do your job and provide immediate oversight by: • Publicly Denouncing the Bondi/Noem "quid pro quo" strategy. Using federal police power to bypass state privacy laws is a tactic of a police state. • Cutting Off Funding: I expect you to support legislation that prohibits the DHS and DOJ from using discretionary "surge" funds to leverage or intimidate state governments. • Holding a Congressional Inquiry: Demand that Secretary Noem and AG Bondi testify under oath regarding the coordination of these law enforcement surges with demands for state data. Arizonans value sovereignty and constitutional limits on federal power. If you remain silent while the administration ransoms state data for public safety, you are complicit in the erosion of our rights. I am not asking for a form letter. I am demanding to know what specific actions you are taking to stop this federal overreach today.
