Texas Teachers Deserve a Raise!

To: Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Rep. Harris Davila, Sen. Schwertner

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

April 10

Hello, I know you are preparing for House Budget Night on Thursday, April 10. Thank you for working to develop a budget that reflects the needs and priorities of Texans throughout the state, including those in our community. I urge you to vote for any amendment to the budget that increases the basic allotmentand/or provides a permanent pay raise for all public school teachers. Currently, the budget appropriates around $7.7 billion for school funding increases. However, an investment to match 2019’s historic basic allotment increase would cost $14.8 billion, while simply allowing school districts to keep up with inflation since 2019 would cost $19.6 billion. Our public schools are the backbones of our communities. Providing adequate funding to meet the needs of our students is deeply important to me and ensures a brighter future for our whole state. Please help Texas teachers be the best they can be!
