As a constituent and someone who deeply values the role of science and innovation in driving economic growth, public health, and national security, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed 23% cut to the National Science Foundation (NSF) budget for Fiscal Year 2026.
On Tuesday, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies proposed slashing NSF funding to $7 billion — a dangerous reduction that would significantly undermine the United States' global leadership in science, technology, and education. NSF supports critical research, graduate education, and STEM workforce development across the country, including in our district.
This cut would jeopardize thousands of jobs, stall groundbreaking research, and limit opportunities for students and early-career scientists. With global competition intensifying, now is the time to invest more—not less—in the scientific enterprise that fuels American innovation.
I urge you to oppose this proposed cut and advocate for robust, sustained NSF funding in the final FY26 appropriations bill.
