The SAVE Act places onerous and discriminatory requirements on eligible voters to provide documentary proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections. This unconstitutional burden will disproportionately disenfranchise minorities, the elderly, students, and other vulnerable populations who may lack access to specific identification documents. Ensuring the fundamental right to vote should be the priority, not creating unnecessary barriers. I urge you to reject this legislation which undermines free and fair elections that are the cornerstone of democracy. Protecting voters' rights and expanding access to the ballot box should be the focus, not limiting participation through restrictive voter ID laws that disproportionately impact communities of color and other marginalized groups. This misguided bill threatens to take us backwards rather than strengthening our democratic processes.
