Demand for Immediate Release of Sami Harb and End to ICE Abuses

To: Rep. Salinas, Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Sheridan, OR

July 29

I am writing as your constituent to demand the immediate release of Sami Harb, a lawful permanent resident who has been unjustly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for over a week. As reported by Truthout (July 29, 2025), Mr. Harb—a Palestinian green card holder who has lived in the U.S. for over 45 years—was taken into custody by ICE agents in Georgia and denied access to legal counsel for more than a week. This is a shocking abuse of power and a violation of Mr. Harb’s constitutional and human rights. ICE’s failure to provide timely access to a lawyer, compounded by the use of solitary confinement and threats of deportation, mirrors a growing pattern of cruel and arbitrary detentions that undermine our nation’s values and legal norms. Mr. Harb has no recent criminal convictions and poses no threat to public safety. He is a husband, father, and community member whose life and liberty have been upended without due process. This is unacceptable. I urge you to take immediate action by: 1. Demanding ICE release Sami Harb without delay. 2. Calling for a full investigation into this incident and ICE's detention practices. 3. Supporting legislation that protects due process for immigrants and prohibits indefinite detention without legal representation. Silence in the face of this injustice is complicity. Our immigration system must be rooted in fairness, accountability, and respect for basic rights. Please stand up for Mr. Harb and all others being harmed by ICE’s unchecked power.
