Investigate alleged State Department religious bias directive, uphold religious freedom
To: Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bentz, Sen. Wyden
From: A verified voter in Myrtle Creek, OR
April 13
According to reports, the U.S. State Department issued an internal directive instructing employees to report instances of alleged "anti-Christian bias" amongst their coworkers. This directive has raised concerns about potential violations of the First Amendment's protection against government involvement in religion, as no one should be compelled to monitor or report on others' personal beliefs. As a nation founded on religious freedom, we must reject actions that appear to entangle the government with specific faiths or require the policing of religious expression. This reported State Department directive should be condemned and its origins investigated to uphold the vital principle of religious liberty for all Americans, regardless of their beliefs.
