VOTE NO ON SAVE ACT

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Reading, PA

February 12

The SAVE Act is a direct assault on the fundamental right to vote and a calculated attempt to silence the voices of millions of Americans under the guise of "security." By demanding proof of citizenship that many citizens simply do not have readily available, this legislation creates an unconstitutional barrier that will disproportionately block women—who often have name changes due to marriage—and minority communities from the ballot box. Voting is a sacred right, not a privilege for those who can afford the time and money to track down expensive, specific documentation; once you attach a "paperwork tax" to a ballot, you have infringed upon that right. The reality is that our voting system is already incredibly secure with almost zero documented fraud, making this nothing more than a desperate, racist ploy to suppress the vote. If political leaders want to win, they should do it by offering better solutions for the American people, not by engineering ways to stop them from being heard! Also, 7% of U.S. citizens do not have immediate access to documents like birth certificates or passports, which can cost between $20 and $160 to replace. We already have existing laws that state It's already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, and voters must already swear under penalty of perjury that they are citizens. VOTE NO!!!!!
