Harness AI before it destroys us Dear Servant of God’s Children: I write to you as a citizen, educator, and follower of Jesus Christ, pleading that you use your governing authority to intervene before the unchecked acceleration of Artificial Intelligence causes irreversible harm to humanity and the created order. God placed us in creation to till and tend the garden, demanding that technological power be wedded to moral progress and the flourishing of life. Instead, reckless commercial races are leading us toward catastrophic failure.  First, heavy use of algorithmic systems is already inflicting profound cognitive and emotional damage, particularly on children and adolescents. Rather than forming whole, thoughtful persons equipped for life, these addictive systems commodify attention, erode critical reasoning, and foster isolation, reducing precious children of God to passive, dependent consumers.  Second, the current frenzy of unrestrained data center construction poses severe ecological and economic perils. These massive facilities consume unprecedented amounts of water and electrical power, straining public grids and depleting local aquifers for speculative models that will be rendered obsolete within a few years of completion. Tying most of the value of our economy to these technologies makes us vulnerable to massive collapse. This sacrifices living ecosystems to technological gods for short-term financial speculation.  Finally, as researchers in the field now openly warn, the exponential expansion of AI capability presents grave existential risks. Autonomous systems are already demonstrating capacities to break containment, coordinate in swarms, and pursue unintended goals detached from human well-being. If self-improving superintelligence breaks free from ethical alignment, it will inevitably treat creation and humanity as mere disposable fuel for its own ends. Do not leave our future to the whims of corporate profit. Strictly regulate frontier models and harness AI to transparent scientific and technical tasks under firm moral constraints, directing our tools toward creational restoration and the abundant life of God's children.
