A deportation plan relying on unaccountable private militias undermines civil liberties and due process. I urge you to reject such extreme proposals. Instead, work on legislative reforms to fix our broken immigration system humanely and constitutionally, including a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Importantly, state and local governments should refuse cooperation with any federal crackdown that transgresses the rule of law.
Upholding America's democratic values requires all levels of government to firmly resist unjust overreach that scapegoats vulnerable communities. There are reasonable, lawful paths forward to address immigration through proper channels while protecting fundamental rights.
The scapegoating of immigrants as criminals dehumanizes many law abiding people and does nothing to catch individuals who have truly criminal intentions. I feel less safe knowing that a mass deportation system is on the horizon. Thank you for your efforts.
