Our government only works when parties work together, negotiate, and compromise. The Republicans hold the Presidency and majorities in the House and Senate. Yet, because of Senate rules, some outside of the Republican party will need to vote for the funding bill. In order to get those votes, Republicans should meet with and negotiate with Senate Democrats.
The Democrats are asking for funding for healthcare concerns, including the continuation of existing tax credits for health insurance. If congress is unwilling to do more to make healthcare in America available and affordable to all, surely you can see the need to ensure Americans are not put into extreme hardship just to maintain their level of coverage.
I would also like you to examine the spending of this administration on things such as the White House ballroom and extraordinary actions by Homeland Security/ICE and the military (extra-judicial killings of suspected drug traffickers) even while the rest of the government is shut down. All year we have been subjected to reduced government workforce, the closure of congressionally-mandated programs and entire agencies, and the halting of promised grants and aid, all because of a supposed need to reduce spending. Why then can this administration spend so much on all of these other programs?
Please do your job, work across the aisle, hold the Administration accountable, and provide for the people of your state and district.
