I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent to demand immediate action regarding the escalating abuses carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including mass detentions, violations of due process, and the alarming expansion of a carceral system that is increasingly targeting not just immigrants, but protestors and critics of U.S. foreign policy. The actions of ICE—often operating without warrants, legal oversight, or respect for judicial authority—have gone beyond immigration enforcement. They now constitute systemic violations of constitutional rights and human dignity. Facilities like the Centralized Expansion of Customs Operations and Training (CECOT) resemble modern-day concentration camps, where individuals are held in indefinite detention without legal representation, adequate medical care, or access to basic resources. These are not isolated incidents—they are evidence of an agency operating without meaningful accountability. Even more disturbing is the growing trend of surveillance and intimidation tactics being used against protestors, activists, and individuals who speak out against U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding Israel-Palestine. When federal agencies begin targeting dissent and punishing political speech, we are no longer dealing with questions of policy—we are confronting authoritarian overreach. We are on a slippery slope where the erosion of civil liberties for immigrants becomes a blueprint for the erosion of rights for all. Citizens and residents alike are being caught in this web of unchecked enforcement, indefinite incarceration, and fear-driven governance. This is not just a failure of policy. It is a direct threat to the values this country claims to uphold: due process, equal protection under the law, and freedom from unlawful detention. I urge you to act swiftly and decisively. Specifically, I call on you to: -Support the immediate abolition of ICE and a full restructuring of immigration oversight rooted in human rights and constitutional law; -Demand no taxpayer funding to, or use of, detention centers like CECOT and any facility operating under inhumane or secretive conditions; -Introduce and support legislation that protects protestors and whistleblowers, and condemns the weaponization of immigration enforcement against political dissent; -Hold the Trump administration accountable for repeated violations of judicial orders and reassert the balance of power between the executive and judicial branches; -Ensure federal agencies are subject to transparent oversight, legal restraint, and public accountability—as any institution in a democratic society must be. The United States is at a turning point. Will we defend civil liberties, democratic norms, and the fundamental rights of all people—or allow fear and unchecked power to define our future?
