The proposal to take over the Gaza Strip and forcibly resettle its Palestinian population is a clear violation of international law and human rights norms. Forced displacement and transfer of an occupied population would constitute a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and could amount to a war crime and crime against humanity. Such actions would undoubtedly face overwhelming international opposition and condemnation. The United States has historically committed to a negotiated two-state solution and respecting the rights of Palestinians. This extreme proposal utterly disregards those longstanding principles and commitments. Rather than pursue such an illegal and destabilizing course, the US should realign its policies with international law, human rights standards, and the consensus path of pursuing a fair and negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through serious diplomacy and dialogue.
