Congressional authorization needed for Iran actions

To: Rep. Fitzgerald, Sen. Baldwin, Sen. Johnson

From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI

March 3

I am a wife, mother, and on full time staff at our church here in Waukesha, WI. I am writing as your constituent to say that I do not support the actions of our President and do not believe he has the best interests of the American people at heart. While events and relationships with Iran have been tumultuous for some time, and I do agree international involvement and diplomatic actions should take place, I do not believe entering into a war abruptly and without authorization from Congress is right. The President continues to further unbalance our system of checks and balances that have built the rights and decisions of our nation for years. He does not show respect for the laws that mandate governmental leaders working together to make most decisions, especially those of a massive scale like military action against Iran. This was also launched without a transparent plan or end goal. The Middle East has been unstable for a long time, and most American involvement in the past has resulted in protracted fighting, loss of lives on both sides -- both civilian and military -- and little improved conditions or outcomes. Please restore our checks and balances that mean all governmental branches work together to act, instead of the majority of power being concentrated upon one branch or person. This is not only dangerous in the present time, but sets precedence that will impact us for decades to come. Insist that further action with Iran be done only with Congressional approval, and only in a manner that is thoughtful, with clear end goals, and strives for a peaceful resolution. Thank you.
