I write to you today to urge you to give up your baseless vendetta against Anthony Fauci. Your pursuit of this is pointless and takes away from real issues like affordability and corruption in the Trump family and administration. Take your complaints to the state department and pour your anger into China. I also urge you to cancel the contempt vote scheduled for next week. There is insufficient evidence that Fauci knowingly lied to Congress, which is a key element for perjury or false statements. Many of the alleged contradictions stem from differing scientific definitions (for example, what qualifies as “gain-of-function” research) rather than intentional deception. Public health guidance evolved as scientific evidence changed, which is normal during a novel pandemic. The investigations have become highly politicized and risk discouraging scientists from serving in public roles. While I agree that accountability is important, I also think this energy should be fair and aimed at both parties.
