Please reject Russell Vought’s nomination for director of the Office of Management and Budget. Vought is a strong proponent of Christian nationalism through his writings and his work outside of the federal government, including involvement in Project 2025. Vought seeks to expand presidential powers, in a move that he calls “radical constitutionalism.” Vought is additionally seeking to revive the presidential “impoundment” power, which would withhold funding appropriated by Congress. Vought’s embrace of Christian nationalism signals a shift toward theocratic rule that the Framers would scoff at. A second stint of Vought as in charge of the OMB would see Vought advancing policies that decimate the line between church and state, elevating his personal religious views above secular values enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Please stand by the First Amendment of the Constitution by voting against Russell Vought to become director of the Office of Management and Budget.
