I am writing to express my strong opposition to any Democrat who voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security under the current administration. This vote represents a fundamental betrayal of progressive values and the communities that depend on Democratic representatives to protect them from harmful enforcement policies.
The DHS has overseen immigration enforcement practices that have resulted in hundreds of people dying or disappearing in ICE custody. Funding this agency without meaningful accountability measures or reform provisions enables these abuses to continue. Democrats who provided this funding have effectively endorsed policies that are transforming our country into a "papers please" nation, where people live in fear of arbitrary detention and family separation.
This is not a time for political compromise that sacrifices vulnerable communities. The damage being done to immigrant families, asylum seekers, and long-term residents is immediate and irreversible. Every dollar allocated to DHS without strict oversight and humanitarian safeguards funds an enforcement apparatus that operates with insufficient transparency and accountability.
I expect Democratic representatives to stand firm against policies that harm constituents and violate our values. Those who voted to fund DHS without demanding substantial reforms have abandoned their responsibility to protect the people they represent. They have chosen political expediency over principle at a moment when courage is most needed.
I urge you to publicly oppose any Democrat who supported this funding measure and to work toward ensuring that future appropriations for DHS include mandatory reforms, independent oversight mechanisms, and protections for immigrant communities. Progressive voters deserve representatives who will fight for them, not collaborate with policies that cause documented harm.
I will be watching closely to see whether you stand with communities under threat or with those who enabled their continued persecution.
