Senator Lankford, I am writing to you to ask that you uphold your constitutional oath to the rule of law. President elect is currently pressuring Congress to push through his nominations without confirmation hearings. I believe it’s because he’s concerned some of these nominations will not pass those hearings. Matt Gaetz as Attorney General is beyond concerning. He resigned before the ethics commission could submit their findings and his allegations of having sex with a minor amongst other allegations are distressing. There is good reason to be concerned that he would dismantle the Department of Justice to protect himself. Our very constitution is based on the rule of law and without it we no longer have a Democracy. Tulsi Gabbard is also concerning. She has echoed policies that mirror the Kremlin and is known to have connections to Putin. To have Tulsi over the Department of Intelligence would undermine our Intelligence which protects our country. Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense who is both inexperienced and untested but would be over the largest and most powerful military in the world is again frightening. To pick someone so inexperienced would lead one to believe our President chose him not for his competence but because he is a loyalist. I fear for our Democracy. I fear the international rule of law would be abdicated which would destroy our country. I fear the rule of law will be abdicated in service of a President who wants to be unchecked. Already he is testing his power and how far he can push his will. He wants Congress to do his bidding and has put his loyalists in Congress to work to pressure everyone to comply. I ask that you uphold your constitutional oath to the rule of law. It is not to a man but a rule of law. There are Senators including Mitch McConnell holding the line. I hope you will join him in keeping your oath.
