Today I take pen in hand to write and urge your support for H.R. 4124, the Restoring Judicial Separation of Powers Act introduced last year. It’s a first step towards Supreme and Appeals Reform in our court system, and although more needs to be done, it adds a more balanced and insulating layer between the Supreme Court and lower courts.
The way the Supreme Court receives cases is flawed. It’s too close to the Executive branch and federal agencies, allowing things like a shadow docket of cherry picking cases to radically transform or upend Congress and even executive actions with no accountability.
Establishing a new 13-judge rotating panel sounds like a good idea, to prevent politically charged cases being fast-tracked to judges of the President’s choosing, or powerful interests gaming the courts.
Even if passage is not quite possible, it needs support right now to begin rebuilding our appellate system. Please support and/or co-sponsor H.R. 4124. Thank you.
