I want you, as a member of Congress, to start using your power to resist Trump’s push to solidify executive power. I am deeply concerned for the future of our democracy and I do not see any resistance coming from your office towards the executive overreach being played out daily. Trump is now joking (or is he?) about a possible 2028 third term. Are you going to stand idly by as he makes these quips and then turns them into reality? Does that not make you fear for our democracy? Our democracy ends at the point Trump runs for a third term. Our democracy ends when Congress no longer has the power to stand up to the president. Our democracy ends when the judiciary can no longer enforce the law of the land. Our democracy ends when people like me can no longer afford food and healthcare. You are literally in a position of power to do something, but you are not. Why? Why do you continue to roll over for someone who should be a lame duck president? Why are you fighting for one man’s legacy and not the rights of the people you are elected to represent? I truly want an answer from you. And I do not believe the policies being handed down through this administration are in my best interest. Because all I’ve seen are prices increase, my paycheck go less far, and billionaires get richer. I ask that you, as my representation, start working now to protect our democracy and fight for the common person. Stop playing politics and start doing something to check the executive powers that threaten to bring our democracy to an end.
