I am a concerned constituent in your state writing to demand that you fulfill your constitutional oath and enforce the War Powers Resolution of 1973 against President Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran. The 60-day deadline under the War Powers Resolution has now expired. President Trump notified Congress on March 2, 2026, after launching strikes on Iran. That clock is not paused by a fragile ceasefire, no matter how Defense Secretary Hegseth tries to spin it. The law contains no such exception. This is a blatant attempt by the Trump administration to bypass Congress and expand executive war powers beyond what the Constitution allows. Continuing the naval blockade and military operations without explicit congressional authorization is unlawful and sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the separation of powers. President Trump has once again shown contempt for congressional authority by starting major hostilities without approval and now refusing to end them when the law requires it. Congress must not be complicit in this power grab. I urge you to: • Immediately support and vote for resolutions invoking the War Powers Resolution to force the termination of unauthorized U.S. military actions against Iran. • Oppose any efforts to rubber-stamp or ignore the expired 60-day limit. • Publicly hold President Trump accountable for defying this landmark law designed precisely to prevent presidents from waging open-ended wars on their own. Your duty is to the Constitution, not to shielding the executive branch from accountability. Failure to act now signals that Congress is willing to surrender its war-making powers entirely.
