Calling for Oversight: Prevent Unchecked Military Expansion on Public Lands
To: Sen. Banks, Rep. Carson, Sen. Young
From: A constituent in Indianapolis, IN
April 16
I’m writing to express my deep concern about President Trump’s authorization for the Defense Department to use public civilian lands near the southern border. This raises serious questions about the lack of transparency and the potential impact on the rights and safety of border communities.
I urge you and your colleagues in Congress to demand strong oversight of these expanded military actions—especially any changes to the rules governing the use of force. It’s essential that clear safeguards and accountability measures are put in place to ensure the protection of border residents from an unnecessary and dangerous expansion of military presence in their daily lives.
These developments are alarming enough on their own, but the potential invocation of the Insurrection Act would only make matters worse. Such a step is both unwarranted and deeply concerning for the future of civilian governance and constitutional rights.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
