Investigate Musk's undue influence over government agencies

To: Sen. Wyden, Rep. Hoyle, Sen. Merkley

From: A constituent in North Bend, OR

February 3, 2025

Elon Musk's government takeover via the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) raises serious concerns about regulatory capture and the undue influence of private interests over public institutions. The involvement of young, inexperienced engineers with ties to Musk's companies and Peter Thiel, who has expressed anti-democratic views, is particularly alarming. Their lack of expertise in government operations and access to highly sensitive data and systems poses risks to national security, citizen privacy, and the integrity of federal agencies. This unchecked power grab by an unelected billionaire undermines democratic principles and accountability. Swift action is needed to investigate DOGE's activities, revoke improper access, and restore proper oversight and qualified leadership to safeguard the public interest. Concentrated private control over vital government functions is unacceptable in a democratic society. Decisive measures must be taken to uphold the rule of law and citizen representation.
