**Demand Full Investigation and Accountability for Fatal ICE Shooting of Renee Nicole Good**
On January 7, 2026, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident, in her car. According to Minneapolis police preliminary information, Good was blocking the road when a federal officer approached on foot. As her vehicle began to drive off, at least two shots were fired. She sustained gunshot wounds to the head and died at the hospital. Police stated there is nothing to indicate she was the target of any law enforcement investigation.
The federal government's characterization of this incident as justified self-defense contradicts accounts from local officials who reviewed video evidence. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stated after viewing footage that the agent's actions were not self-defense and it does not appear Good was driving toward the agent. Governor Tim Walz called the shooting "preventable" and "unnecessary," stating "We have someone dead in their car for no reason whatsoever." According to Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez, Good was "an observer" who was "watching out for our immigrant neighbors."
This shooting occurred less than a mile from where George Floyd was killed in May 2020, in a community still healing from that trauma. The deployment of as many as 2,000 ICE and Homeland Security Investigations agents to the Minneapolis area has created a climate of fear and tension that contributed to this tragedy.
I urge you to support Rep. Ayanna Pressley's motion to subpoena DHS for all documents and footage related to this shooting. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and FBI investigation must proceed with full transparency and independence from federal interference. Congress must ensure complete accountability for the death of Renee Nicole Good and examine whether the massive federal law enforcement deployment to Minneapolis created conditions that made this preventable death inevitable.
