I am writing to bring urgent attention to a serious issue affecting communities across Ohio: the bullying and intimidation of individuals who refuse to participate in illegal drug use. This form of coercion creates dangerous environments in our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, and demands legislative action. Across Ohio, individuals—particularly young people—face relentless pressure, threats, and social ostracism when they decline involvement with illegal substances. This intimidation goes beyond mere peer pressure; it often escalates to harassment, threats of violence, property damage, and systematic exclusion. Those who stand firm in their refusal to use drugs are labeled as outcasts and subjected to coordinated campaigns designed to break their resolve. Current Ohio laws address drug trafficking and possession but inadequately address the psychological warfare waged against those who resist. We need stronger legislation that specifically criminalizes intimidation tactics used to coerce drug use, with enhanced penalties when minors are targeted. I urge you to champion legislation that: Creates specific criminal penalties for coercing or intimidating individuals to use illegal drugs, with enhanced charges when violence or threats are involved. Establishes protections for individuals who report such intimidation, including whistleblower provisions. Mandates educational programs in schools addressing resistance to drug-related peer pressure and intimidation. Provides funding for community support systems that protect and empower individuals standing against drug use. Our communities deserve environments where saying "no" to illegal drugs doesn't result in fear, isolation, or danger. These individuals demonstrate courage and deserve legal protection, not abandonment.
