Oppose All Funding for ICE and CBP Operations
To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden
From: A constituent in Portland, OR
January 29
I am writing to urge you to demand an immediate halt to all funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection until the violence, abuses, and deaths in American communities and immigration detention centers stop.
As you finalize spending bills for federal agencies before the January 30th deadline, I ask you to refuse to provide any funding to ICE and CBP through the appropriations process. Additionally, I urge you to immediately take action to revoke the tens of billions already allocated through last summer's reconciliation bill.
The Department of Homeland Security's operations have resulted in documented violence against communities across the country. These agencies continue to operate detention centers where abuses and deaths occur. Providing additional funding without accountability makes Congress complicit in this ongoing harm to people in our communities.
Standing with your constituents means voting NO on the FY2026 DHS Bill and halting all ICE and CBP funding. Our communities deserve immigration policies that prioritize human dignity and safety over enforcement operations that have proven deadly and abusive.
I ask you to take a clear stand on this urgent matter before the January 30th deadline. Your vote will demonstrate whether you prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all people in your district or continued funding for agencies that have caused documented harm.
