An Open Letter

To: Sen. Cromer, Sen. Scott, Rep. Biggs, Pres. Trump, Rep. White, Sen. Graham Nordone, Gov. McMaster

From: A constituent in Prosperity, SC

October 13

To the Federal Government and State Governments , I’m requesting the creation of a new Department of Labor training and certification program for individuals entering the United States on employment visas. Under this program, DOL officials would operate certification classes that teach job skills, U.S. workplace standards, and ethics. Upon completion, participants would receive a DOL certification confirming they are qualified for specific jobs. The program would also include a DOL job connection system, similar to Goodwill’s model, to help certified individuals apply for open positions that match their training they are sponsored for, DOL officials would record this in a system which notifies the Department of Homeland Security so the sponsoring employer and visa purpose are verified. I request that the federal government and the states fund this program jointly. This initiative will create new jobs within the Department of Labor, ensure visa holders are properly trained and qualified, and strengthen the integrity of the employment visa system. Sincerely,
