STOP the Unilateral Destruction of Taxpayer-Funded National Assets (H.R. 6896)

To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Husted, Sen. Moreno

From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH

March 26

I am writing to demand that Congress reassert its constitutional authority over federal property. I am deeply concerned by recent reports of the Executive Branch continuing to the substantially alter or demolish historic national assets—including the White House East Wing and the Kennedy Center—without explicit Congressional approval or public review. Federal buildings are not the personal property of any President; they are the property of the American people, funded by our tax dollars. Allowing the Executive Branch to unilaterally liquidate or renovate these assets—often with opaque, private special-interest funding—sets a dangerous precedent for corruption and the permanent loss of our national heritage. I am asking you to support and co-sponsor: 1. H.R. 6896 (The Federal Facilities Protection and Oversight Act): To require a 72-hour notification and Congressional consent before any major demolition or alteration of federal buildings. 2. The People’s White House Historic Preservation Act: To remove the White House’s exemption from the National Historic Preservation Act, ensuring any changes are subject to a formal public review. Whether you prioritize fiscal responsibility or the preservation of our history, it is clear that these decisions belong to Congress. Do not allow the Executive Branch to bypass your oversight. I look forward to seeing your name on these bills.
