Leadership of the democratic party - I oppose Schumer and Jeffries
To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet
From: A constituent in Aurora, CO
November 6
I am writing as a constituent and committed Democratic voter to say plainly. I do not support Chuck Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries continuing as the leaders of our party. The recent blue wave was not a modest correction; it was a historic mandate. The American people turned out to demand action and accountability in defense of our democratic systems. That mandate now requires strong, decisive leadership, and we do not have it currently. Both Mr. Schumer and Mr. Jeffries have shown us time and again that they are more interested in courting the center than doing the hard work of holding their Republican colleagues and the President accountable for their actions. The result is a party that negotiates hardest within itself while the other side sets the terms. I am asking you to publicly state whether you support new leadership in the democratic caucus. I also request that you vote against Schumer and Jeffries in any leadership election or caucus vote, and I hope you will push for an open, contested leadership process rather than a coronation, so members are accountable to voters rather than to seniority.
