Today I’m writing to urge you to Vote NO on Dr. Nicole Saphier's nomination for Surgeon General. This is President Trump's third nominee for the position after two previous picks failed to win Republican Senate support. That pattern should give you pause, these people are dangerous kooks and completely unqualified. Dr. Saphier is a Fox News contributor and radiologist, not someone with the public health expertise this role demands. The Surgeon General must lead on issues like infectious disease, vaccination policy, and nationwide health crises. We already know because our nation’s healthcare is in crisis owing to incompetent and dangerous “leaders” , Saphier is just another kook with an agenda that will not benefit the American people. A radiologist whose primary qualification appears to be television appearances is not equipped for that many responsibilities. Casey Means' nomination just collapsed because Republican senators rightly demanded strong support for measles and hepatitis B vaccines. The bar has been set. Dr. Saphier must face the same scrutiny on vaccination policy and public health fundamentals. If she cannot provide unequivocal support for proven public health measures, reject her nomination as you did with Means. The Surgeon General serves as America's doctor. We need someone with a track record in public health leadership, not someone whose main credential is cable news commentary. Stand firm on the standards you established during the Means hearing.
