I just watched the press conference with President Trump and Vice President Vance and President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. I was ashamed of our leaders and the way they conducted themselves. They shouted at a foreign leader of a democratic country that is an ally like he was a misbehaving child. ( Actually, scratch that. I do not even speak to my children like that!) Why are we cozying up to a dictator? Putin and Russia are not our allies. They are not the friend of any democratic country. Contrary to the lies being told at the White House, Russia invaded Ukraine and has killed tens of thousands of Ukrainians including at least 12,000 civilians. Civilians have also been taken captive and not returned to their country after negotiations between the countries were not honored by Russia. Small children were stolen from Ukraine and taken to Russia. As the leader of the free world, President Trump should be the protector or democracy. He should not be insisting that Ukraine be thankful that Russia is allowed to take large parts of their country. And for what? For a deal that President Trump made with the dictator Putin to have access to rare minerals in that region. He literally is trying to sell a country so he can profit from it. Imagine if another country said Putin could have a large party of our country for mineral rights. Imagine that the US was not even allowed to attend the peace talks. This is disgusting. And Russian media was allowed in the Oval Office but not the Associated Press or Reuters? How is that free speech? How is that even appropriate? I expect our leaders to act with the utmost decorum and professionalism. We should honor our friendships around the world. When leaders come to the White House, they should be treated with respect. We owe President Zelensky an apology. President Trump and Vice President Vance acted like schoolyard bullies. They should be ashamed of themselves. No one will respect or support our country now. And like it or not, we live in a global society. President Trump did not speak for me today and he did not speak for the American ideal. Please speak out regardless of your party affiliation. When something is wrong, we cannot look the other way. It must be addressed and condemned. Thank you p.s.
