The reported plan to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is a direct assault on American safety and a risk to our national security. As your constituent, I urge you to exercise your oversight authority to stop the Office of Management and Budget from dissolving this essential institution. Breaking up NCAR’s integrated teams in Boulder is not a "restructuring," it is the intentional destruction of the backbone of American weather and climate intelligence. Every hurricane track, wildfire prediction, and agricultural forecast our country relies on is rooted in NCAR’s research. By allowing this dissolution to proceed, Congress is permitting a future where Americans are less prepared for deadly weather events and our economy is left vulnerable to avoidable disasters. The administration seems bent on destroying the research infrastructure that has actually driven American greatness. Congress must protect it. I urge you to hold the line against these attacks on the public good and ensure that NCAR remains a unified, fully funded pillar of our national defense against a changing climate. I look forward to your prompt response on how you intend to protect this critical asset.
