An Open Letter
To: Gov. Hochul
From: A verified voter in Hawthorne, NY
July 31
I am urging you to sign the time extender bill
S4602/A5846. This sensible voter protection bill has passed the legislature, but you, Governor, haven’t signed it yet.
Under current law, if voting at a polling place is disrupted because of a loss of electricity or a malicious threat, like a bomb scare, it is a race to the courthouse to persuade a local judge to extend the time to vote at the affected poll. This 'remedy' can be arbitrary and even if granted, it leaves voters in the dark about the extended time. The
"Time Extender" Bill creates a systematic, predictable remedy under which polls are open for an extended time and the public must be informed of the extended hours.
Please Governor Hochul sign S4602/A5846 now!!!
