Remove Kay Granger and Screen Politicians
To: Sen. Kennedy, Pres. Biden, Rep. Graves, Sen. Cassidy
From: A constituent in Baton Rouge, LA
December 25, 2024
We, the undersigned, are writing to express our deep concern over the ongoing situation involving Congresswoman Kay Granger, who has been absent from her duties for the past six months while receiving care in a dementia facility. During this time, she has failed to fulfill her responsibilities as a representative of the people, leaving her constituents unrepresented and her position unfilled. As a result, we demand the following actions to uphold accountability, transparency, and the integrity of our government: 1. Immediate Removal of Kay Granger from Office: Congresswoman Granger’s extended absence from her duties, due to her admission to a dementia care facility, constitutes a failure to perform the duties she was elected to fulfill. As an elected representative, her primary obligation is to serve her constituents and the public interest. Her ongoing incapacity to perform these duties means she should be immediately removed from office and replaced by someone capable of serving the people of her district. 2. Suspension of Pay for the Current Year: As Congresswoman Granger has not been fulfilling her role as a legislator for the past six months, it is unjust for her to continue receiving taxpayer-funded compensation. We demand that she forgo her pay for the current year, given her failure to provide service to her constituents and her country. 3. Mandatory Annual Dementia and Alzheimer’s Screenings for All Government Officials: In light of this situation, and as a preventive measure for the future, we propose that all elected officials and government employees in all branches of government—legislative, executive, and judicial—undergo mandatory annual screenings for dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other cognitive impairments. This policy would ensure that those in positions of power and authority are mentally fit to make decisions that affect the lives of all Americans. Why This Matters: • Public Trust and Accountability: Elected officials must be held accountable to the people they represent. A failure to fulfill one's duties should result in immediate action to preserve the public trust. • Transparency and Integrity: This petition seeks to bring transparency to the mental fitness of our leaders. If an elected official is unable to perform their duties, it is critical that the public is made aware, and corrective action is taken swiftly. • Protecting Democracy: A government that is led by individuals who are mentally and physically fit to make decisions is essential for the health of our democracy. Ensuring the mental fitness of all government officials will help prevent potential issues from arising in the future and maintain the effectiveness of our government. By signing this petition, we call on Congress and all branches of government to take immediate action to remove Congresswoman Kay Granger from office, suspend her pay, and enact a nationwide policy of mandatory annual dementia screenings for all government officials.
