No on DHS Appropriations

To: Rep. Davids, Sen. Marshall, Sen. Moran

From: A constituent in Prairie Village, KS

January 25

I am writing to urge you to oppose any legislation that increases funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), particularly without strong oversight, accountability measures, and protections for people with legal status and asylum seekers. Recent enforcement actions across the country - including detentions of individuals with lawful presence and refugees - have deeply alarmed me. The lack of transparency, apparent disregard for due process, and fear being instilled in immigrant communities run counter to the values I believe Kansas and our country should stand for. I do not support allocating additional taxpayer funds to an agency that has repeatedly demonstrated patterns of overreach and harm, especially when those funds are not paired with enforceable limits, independent oversight, or meaningful reforms. Increasing ICE’s budget under these conditions risks further violations of civil liberties and the separation of families who are legally present and contributing members of our communities. I ask that you: - Vote against increased ICE funding as currently proposed - Advocate for strict accountability and oversight requirements if any funding moves forward - Support immigration policies that prioritize due process, humanitarian protection, and community safety rather than fear-based enforcement As your constituent, I am asking you to use your position in the Senate to stand for human dignity, constitutional protections, and responsible governance. I will be following how you vote on this issue closely. Thank you for your time and for representing Kansans.
