Social Security/Medicare Funding

To: Sen. Grassley, Rep. Feenstra, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Council Bluffs, IA

October 11

I am writing to urge you to protect Social Security and Medicare by strengthening their long-term finances without cutting earned benefits, raising the retirement age, or shifting additional costs onto seniors who depend on these programs. I ask you to support practical solutions, including: - Strengthening Social Security payroll tax revenue by applying the payroll tax to a greater share of earnings for high-income individuals. - Closing tax loopholes and ensuring the wealthiest Americans and profitable corporations pay their fair share toward these essential programs. - Reducing Medicare waste, fraud, and abuse while negotiating fairer prescription drug prices and reducing unnecessary healthcare spending. - Considering modest, gradual revenue increases if needed, with appropriate protections for low- and middle-income workers. Social Security and Medicare are promises earned through a lifetime of work and contributions. Americans deserve the peace of mind of knowing these programs will remain reliable for current retirees and future generations. Please make protecting these benefits a priority and pursue bipartisan, long-term solutions before financial shortfalls force more difficult choices. Thank you for your consideration.
