Congress Must Act to Protect Federal Employees and Their Rights
To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

June 15
I am writing to urge you to support federal employee unions and defend the collective bargaining rights of the civil servants who serve the American people every day.
I am deeply concerned by the ongoing efforts of Russell Vought and this administration to weaken federal agencies, diminish employee protections, and undermine the rights of federal workers. These actions are harming morale, driving experienced employees from public service, and reducing the effectiveness of agencies that Americans depend on.
Recent reports indicate that the IRS has moved to terminate its collective bargaining agreement with the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU), while the union continues to challenge those actions in court. NTEU has also filed suit alleging that IRS management is selectively removing union materials and pro-union displays from workplaces, raising serious concerns about employee free speech and labor rights.
Federal employee unions play a critical role in ensuring fair treatment, workplace accountability, and a professional, nonpartisan civil service. These unions help employees raise concerns about staffing shortages, workplace safety, training, misconduct, and the delivery of services to the public. Weakening unions does not improve government performance. It silences the voices of the very people responsible for carrying out the missions Congress has entrusted to federal agencies.
I urge you to oppose efforts to strip federal employees of their collective bargaining rights and to support legislation that restores and protects union representation throughout the federal government. Congress must exercise oversight to ensure that federal agencies respect labor laws, employee rights, and constitutional protections.
Federal employees deserve dignity, respect, and a meaningful voice in their workplaces. I ask that you stand with federal workers and the unions that represent them.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would appreciate learning your position on protecting collective bargaining rights for federal employees.
