Defend democracy against Musk's unconstitutional payment system intrusion
To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
February 4
Elon Musk's attempts to gain unauthorized access to the government's payment systems are alarming and must be stopped. These payment systems handle trillions of dollars in vital programs like Social Security, Medicare, tax refunds, and federal employee salaries. Musk and his so-called "Department of Government Efficiency" have no legal authority to tamper with these critical systems. Their interference, coupled with Trump's attempts to freeze spending on $3 trillion worth of congressionally-mandated programs, represents a dangerous assault on the separation of powers. If the executive branch can simply cut off funding for programs they disagree with, ignoring Congress and the courts, it would undermine our democracy. I urge you to take immediate action to prevent Musk and his associates from accessing these systems and to defend the authority of Congress over government spending decisions. Allowing this unconstitutional power grab to proceed unchallenged would set a perilous precedent that jeopardizes our system of checks and balances. Decisive steps must be taken to uphold the rule of law and protect our democratic institutions from billionaire oligarchs like Musk.
